/DEV: A LOOK BACK AT LEAGUE IN 2020

Hey there, tacticians! The TFT team is on fire to share later you what went upon at the back the scenes during the making of arenas for Fates: Festival of Beasts. From concept to execution, set 4.5 pushed the boundaries of what we can reach in TFT arenas. And of course, later that purpose came some unique challenges for tone artists, composers, and VFX artists alike. considering the results, we wish to have opened taking place a entire sum further realm of possibilities for how you every experience a game of TFT. save upon reading for the full story!

Lets acquire into it! Heres Gino to introduce you to the concepts for 4.5 arenas.

Concept Design

Going into set 4.5, we knew we wanted to celebrate the Lunar additional Year subsequent to players. To attain that, we had to make it a fun experience though enduring authentic to the traditions of the celebration. For a while we played bearing in mind some acknowledged explorations of the theme, but we wouldnt be TFT if we didnt push it further. We took native pitch concepts for a throne room and river village and dialed those occurring to 11. The throne room became a Chinese-inspired club (with our own innocent DJ), and the river village became a rooftop parade celebration, fixed behind hologram projections. The team was hyped more or less the idea; we knew this was the meting out we wanted to go.

Our bordering challenge was to convey every of our grand ideas while yet accommodating TFTs gameplay needs. The club needed to atmosphere similar to a club upon both PC and mobile, and the thesame went for the rooftop parade. This expected that any visual elements needed to be visible and interactive upon every platforms without getting in the way of all important, subsequent to items.

We with had to be completely thoughtful gone our use of cultural art and symbols. Communication and collaboration became our strongest assets at this point. Shoutout to every of my cultural consultants, coworkers who were up to date next the Lunar extra Year tradition, who gave very vital feedback roughly what would resonate in the manner of all of youplayers. Thanks to multiple rounds of feedback and iteration, as with ease as the lovely feat by our atmosphere artists, VFX artists, SFX artists, and animators, we finished happening following two good boards that I am passionate to look released into the world!

I wish you enjoy what weve made for set 4.5, and following that Ill hand things off to Jeremy upon setting art!

Environment Art

Aatrox Build

Thanks, Gino! As usual, the setting artists were resolved lovely art from the concept team to perform with, and our first challenge was to bring those images to enthusiasm in a 3D space. This included creating our first indoor arena, Club 2! past the previous carrying out of our skyboxes and vistas, we were faced following the unique challenge of creating that similar parallax in an indoor environment. We arranged that by additive large windows to the Club, we could showcase a huge city in the distance, utter taking into account a fireworks celebration. higher than that, we other a charming DJ Ox and concert stage and we were starting to really hit the vibe of Lunar further Year. For that iconic TFT incline of fun, we extra little human touches gone tables of food, disco balls, and confetti cannons.

For the Lunar City Arena, we wanted to create a unprejudiced facade upon top of an ancient town. We moreover knew we needed water regarding the rooftop for wandering boats that would emanate holograms. To reach this, we worked taking into consideration tech art to create a water shader and used a couple of easy textures to feat as reflections.

As a unlimited fun fact: this mid-set is as a consequence the first become old weve introduced foreground elements to our arenas! In Club 2, we created a balcony overlooking the dance floor, and for Lunar City we created some open-minded pagoda-style buildings.

And now, Ill pass it off to Isaac upon VFX!
